Social Weekend & Training @ Wombeyan Caves

DATE:22-03-2014
TRIP LEADER: Charlie Grasso
VEHICLES: 9
PEOPLE: 20

We had a total of 9 cars and 20 people attend of which one was a visitor (Shirley’s son Chris with his own car).

All who attended were very surprised at how much the area had to offer and had a great time relaxing and playing. Brett ran through some basics with hand signaling before putting it in to practice with a small challenging rutted section in a dry dam followed by some basics on winching and demonstration with Jeff and his Patrol.

Craig assisted me on a wood run followed by a demonstration of log splitting. After almost taking out a shin in the process he stoked up the fire with the split logs to give us a fantastic camp fire to tell our stories around. Sue Pendleton had her first heated camp chair experience with some hot coals placed just right and Shirley treated us to some damper with a selection of toppings. All this was while dodging in and out of the bursts of rain which did not dampen the night for us as the camp fire was constantly feed and the shed awning was close by and big enough for us all to continue with our conversations.

We had a camper, a caravan and a tent, John in the back of his ute, some in the shed with us and the Lappalainen family in the Love Shack (our on site van) and after a good night’s sleep we awoke to fog in the valley below before breakfast. All are looking forward to coming back and exploring some of the many tracks around the area and Shirley and I are looking forward to having the Club over whenever.
