With only 6 registered through the new web site the day was looking to be like any normal outing, a medium size and all regular faces, how wrong was I, we had 13 cars in total and 30 people a quick breakdown 9 members cars with 4 newbie’s and 12 fresh new victims (people).
The weather was cold at the meeting point with a very lazy wind that just chilled you to the bone, by the time we had arrived at the airing down point, the wind had died down to make it now bearable. After going through the pre-trip chat and air down rituals we headed off as tip leader I was feeling very nervous at this point I have to admit, knowing how the track could get with moisture on it and the fact that we had so many new people and not knowing their skill levels, but with the wind that was about, the track had dried out considerable from when I did the rekey, this was a blessing to say the least.
We had in total 3 down hill descends and 4 hill climbs the first was just a warm up to the second and the biggest for the day with a few having to reverse back a bit and try different lines and only one that needed a tow, it was as predicted a day that wheel placement meant everything. By the time lunch had arrived the wind had died off almost completely and some of us were comfortable in shirts soaking up the sunshine, even with the added numbers we still managed to get through the most of the track in reasonable time, with everyone having such a good time people wanted to carry on along the power lines rather than finish the trip.
We headed into uncharted grounds you might say, following the power lines, but did not get far before we were stopped by fallen trees on a section of track that rarely gets used, I managed to get my car past the first fallen tree, but Scott in getting his jackeroo past, end up with a battle scar on his rear door (thanks to a very rude branch), so I
made the decision that it was simply not worth the effort and we would stick to plan “A” and make our way out to the planned air up point, but about a k from there Tom decide that he needed to air up there, so the rest of us did the same time and said our goodbyes from there.
I believe the day was a successful day outing and in speaking to all that came I think that everyone had a great time.
