TRIP LEADER: Paul Costello
VEHICLES: 8
PEOPLE: 18

This trip was arranged by Shane McClymont Delegate and NPWS Liaison from 4wd association, the trip was a combined trip with all the other 4wd club which are members of the association to help NSW National parks to plant tree’s in a locked of part of the Garden of Stone National Park.

The trip started off in two groups, the first group lead by Brett left from Bilpin Fruit Bowl at 5:30am,on the Saturday. the idea was to get up there early and secure a larger enough area for all of us to camp as there were at least 14 other clubs attending and about 200 personal, But lucky for us Ross & Rhonda went up on the Friday arvo and grab our club a great flat spot, the second group to head up was lead by myself (Paul) and we left from Richmond Macca’s at 7:15am, after about a 2hour trip to the start of the track that lead into the Garden of Stone, from the Glen Davis end through private property, we were met with a very wet and soft property track.
After slipping and sliding alone the track we finally entered the National park and the area we were camping in, a quick hi and yarn with our other club members that headed up earlier, we unhooked the trailers then headed down to the tree planting area, after a safety talk and doing all the paperwork we were split up into club groups and given an area to plant our portion of tree’s, in our group we had 18 members including Emma & James (Tom & Alison’s) hard working kids (well they liked the dirt and it showed),
Before lunch our group planted roughly around 50 or 60 maybe even 80 tree’s (you know how it goes fisherman’s story).
After lunch most of us went back to the tree planting area to see if there was anything else to do and we got re-assign to making wire tree guards to put around 100’s of tree’s, and while this was going on we found a few tree’s that needed re-planting due to some confusion on the planting instructions given earlier in the day, so we ended up re-planting a hole section of the paddock (prob 150 tree’s).
Saturday night so we all retired back at camp around the fire for dinner and a few drinks and I’ll tell you I let my hair down and knew it in the morning (I think my pillow was made of rocks & thats why i had a headache), we also attended the group bonfire and did some net working with other clubs and there members before retiring back to our camp site for a few more drinks and stories and laughter, around 2am after most had gone off to bed Brett, Mark, Charlie, Craig and myself called it a night as well,

Sunday arrived (way to early) we had a quiet morning around camp, about lunch time we packed up camp headed back down the track and with no more to do at the tree planting area we started heading for home, stopping at Capertee pub for lunch and more stories, about 2:30pm ‘ish we left for home.
In closing This was a great weekend, met new people and got our club name out there,

Paul Costello
