Well what a trip!!, there are some trips that are not without incident but these trips are often the most memorable and bonding as far as a group is concerned, and this trip definitely falls into this category.
There were two very unfortunate incidents, but through them we grew as a group and for me personally who is new to the group, it definitely was a way of getting to know the others that came on the trip. We met at Mac Donald’s in Lithgow and departed roughly on time, (some of the staff at Macca’s were on a go slow) but from there we made our way to the rear of Lake Lyall. After tyre deflation and such we made our way to the foot of Mt Walker. The rain that we have had was a past memory as it was a sunny day, but it had meant that we had an interesting time crossing Cox’s river and also climbing up to the point of Mt Walker.
For those that have not tried this track it is a technical track with wheel placement very important, (how else would a Nissan make it to the top, had to be driver related). Both the mine and Paul’s needed to make use of the equipment on them (winches) to get up to the top but once up there what a view, with hardly a cloud in the sky. There’s not a great deal of room at the top for maneuvering for a photo opportunity, but we did manage a quick pic for the web site before making our way back down for lunch, at this point I would like to say thanks for the women who packed lunches, (Cath)
After Lunch we started to make our way out but due to the rising creeks this was not an option, so another option was needed. After Leo and I followed a few dead-end tracks we finally came across a winner in more than one way, we found a track leading through some private property and after asking permission from the land owner we were given permission to travel across his property. The landowner was so impressed with the manner that we had approached him, and so after some chitchat had invited us to come out and camp on his property at some time.
Finally arrived home later that night and so bourbon definitely was on the cards, (night cap) big big day out with very tired kids.
